Hours earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian military claimed they had once again targeted three US military bases located in Kuwait. Separately, Bahrain and Jordan have claimed that they foiled Iranian attacks before they reached their intended targets. Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior activated emergency sirens and urged residents to move to the nearest safe location, while its military reported intercepting incoming attacks. Jordan’s armed forces announced they destroyed three Iranian missiles and shot down five drones in the air on Tuesday, with no casualties or injuries reported. The IRGC also claimed that its strikes in Jordan’s Rukban area had killed several US troops, a claim to which the United States has not yet responded. Meanwhile, the Iranian military reported a drone strike targeting US forces stationed at Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa Air Base a few hours earlier.

Hormuz vessel crossings extended their slide at the start of the week, shipping data showed, as caution grew following a fresh exchange of attacks between the United States and Iran. A total of four commodity vessels crossed the strait on Monday, down from seven the previous day. These included two tankers that exited the strait (one carrying petrochemicals, one empty) and two vessels that entered (one bitumen tanker, one oil tanker). No very large crude carrier (VLCC) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers were observed passing through the strait on Monday.

Amidst these developments, oil prices softened on Tuesday, with markets weighing reports of mediation efforts between the US and Iran against the ongoing exchange of attacks. Brent crude futures eased by 35 cents to $88.87 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude remained steady at $82.47 a barrel. A senior Iranian official also informed Reuters that Tehran had received a proposal from mediators for a 10-day ceasefire.

A U.S. Energy Secretary has issued a warning to Iran, stating that "destructive strikes will continue." This comes as available reports indicate explosions have occurred in multiple cities across Iran, though the full extent and nature of these incidents remain unclear.
