Two Ships Collide Near Karachi Port

Further details have emerged regarding the collision between two vessels near Karachi Port, which occurred when the departing container ship, MV PAPU, struck the MV NIWA, a vessel engaged in undersea cable maintenance. The collision damaged the bow of the MV NIWA and caused one container to fall into the sea from the MV PAPU.

Port authorities have since detained the MV PAPU within Pakistan’s maritime limits, while the damaged MV NIWA has been safely moved to Berth No. 5. An assessment of the damages is underway to seek compensation from the owners of the responsible vessel.
