The Sindh government has declared June 25 and 26 as public holidays throughout the province on the occasion of Ashura (9th and 10th Muharram).

A notification issued by the provincial chief secretary stated that all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government will remain closed, with the exception of essential services.

Muharram is a month of mourning commemorating the 7th-century Battle of Karbala. In view of the religious processions and gatherings (majalis) planned, special security arrangements are being made across the country to maintain law and order.

The Sindh government has confirmed public holidays for the 9th and 10th of Muharram, which fall on Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26. The holidays are on account of Ashura, when Muslims commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions.

This follows an earlier announcement from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, which stated that the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH, commenced on June 14.
