Three people, including two police personnel, were killed in two separate traffic incidents in Karachi on Monday.

In one incident, a speeding dumper truck crashed into a parked police van on the M9 Motorway within the jurisdiction of the Gadap City police station. Sub-Inspector Sahib Dad Solangi and Constable Wajid were killed on the spot. According to a Malir police spokesperson, the van was assigned to patrolling and snap checking duties when it was struck by the dumper travelling from Hyderabad to Karachi. The bodies were subsequently moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the dumper has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him. Both Malir and Motorway police issued statements confirming the details of the fatal crash.

In a separate hit-and-run incident on Sea View road, an unidentified man was killed. Reports indicate the vehicle involved had a fake government number plate. The suspect is believed to have fled towards Balochistan following the incident.

The incidents highlight a concerning rise in traffic accidents across Karachi, particularly involving heavy vehicles. According to hospital data, nearly 500 people have lost their lives and 4,879 have been injured in road accidents in the city during 2024, attributed to factors ranging from reckless driving to ongoing construction activities.
