Pakistani-origin councillor Muhammad Sadiq elected UK mayor for third time
Pakistani-origin councillor Muhammad Sadiq has made history by being elected Mayor of the Royal Borough of Sutton in the United Kingdom for a third time, becoming the first person of Pakistani and Asian descent to achieve the distinction.
Sadiq, a member of the Liberal Democrats party, has served as a councillor for the borough since 2001. His mayoral inauguration ceremony was attended by Pakistan’s Acting High Commissioner Haseeb bin Aziz, members of parliament, and other dignitaries.
In his address, Mayor Sadiq attributed his success to his tireless work and urged young British-Pakistanis to take an active part in mainstream UK politics.
