Pakistan's Foreign Office on Wednesday issued a "strong demarche" to the United States, calling remarks by the US ambassador to India on the status of Jammu and Kashmir "factually incorrect" and "irresponsible."
In a detailed statement, the ministry said it "strongly condemned and categorically rejected the characterisation of Jammu and Kashmir as a 'part of India'."
The FO noted that while it appreciated US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate the dispute in the aftermath of Marka-i-Haq, the ambassador's statement negated the long-standing US position. Islamabad urged the US to ensure its public statements remained consistent with the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.
