A Lahore High Court bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi has upheld the death sentences for convicts Abid Malhi and Shafqat Bagga in the motorway rape case, dismissing their appeals against the conviction.

The convicts had challenged the March 20, 2021, verdict of an anti-terrorism court. Their counsel argued that the trial court did not properly review the facts, while Prosecutor Raheela Shahid maintained that the sentences were awarded on merit, based on solid evidence against both men. After hearing the arguments, the high court affirmed the trial court’s decision.
