The body of businessman Mir Raza Ali was exhumed on Saturday, a day later than initially planned, after the Sindh government restored the original medical board. The exhumation had been scheduled for Friday morning but was postponed following objections from Raza's family regarding the abrupt reconstitution of the medical board and the inclusion of members from outside the Karachi division. The procedure was carried out in Karachi under the supervision of a judicial magistrate, with an eight-member medical team and the investigation officer present.

The grave of a young Karachi businessman, Mir Raza, was exhumed on Friday in a city cemetery to allow authorities to conduct a post-mortem examination.

The procedure was carried out under the supervision of a judicial magistrate and in the presence of a medical board, which included forensic experts. A heavy contingent of police was deployed to secure the area during the exhumation, which took approximately two and a half hours.

The medical team collected necessary samples from the body for analysis. These samples will be sent to a laboratory at Karachi University to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Following the completion of the post-mortem, the body was re-interred, and the grave was sealed.

The exhumation of young businessman Mir Raza began in Karachi on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as a medical board started the process of collecting samples from his remains for further examination. Members of the medical board, Mir Raza’s family, and their lawyer Jibran Nasir are present at the Society Cemetery, where the procedure is being carried out. The police surgeon, head of the identification project, and a magistrate are also at the site. A heavy police contingent has been deployed around the cemetery with strict security arrangements.

Officials stated that the medical board would collect different samples from the grave, including DNA material from Mir Raza’s remains. The board has also decided to collect DNA samples from Mir Raza’s father and mother for comparison and identification purposes. The members of the medical board will conduct their examinations independently and submit their findings. The exhumation is being conducted as part of the investigation into Mir Raza’s death, with his family maintaining he was murdered and seeking a thorough inquiry. This development follows a dispute over the composition of the medical board, after which the government restored the previous medical board to oversee the exhumation and related forensic examination.

The grave of Mir Raza Ali is scheduled to be exhumed in Karachi at 11 AM today for a new post-mortem examination as part of an ongoing investigation.

The Sindh Health Department has issued a notification reinstating an eight-member medical board to oversee the process. The board, which includes doctors from the previous team, will be convened by Dr. Samia Syed. It has been expanded to include Professor Dr. Naseem from Dow University as a pathologist and Dr. Farrukh as a forensic expert.

Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar stated that the provincial government has no "ill intent" in the case. He explained that the decision to form a new, reputable team was made after the police surgeon's statements appeared to contradict the initial post-mortem report. He affirmed that Dr. Samia Syed remains the convener and has the authority to co-opt other experts if needed. The minister emphasized that a proper investigation must take place.

Authorities have been directed to make the necessary arrangements for the exhumation.

The Sindh Home Minister has reportedly provided an explanation regarding the repeated changes in the medical board constituted for the exhumation of Mir Raza Ali.
