Pakistan Peoples Party’s Amjad Hussain Advocate has been elected unopposed as the new Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, as no other candidate filed nomination papers for the position. In addition, Imran Nadeem was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, while Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker.
Following the elections, PML-N’s Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman was declared the Leader of the Opposition. The developments came after newly elected members of the assembly took their oaths. The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party had earlier decided to support the PPP in forming the government.

The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) has accepted an offer from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to form a coalition government in Gilgit-Baltistan. The agreement was reached during a telephone conversation between PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan.
Following the discussion, Aleem Khan confirmed that the IPP would provide its full support to the PPP. He stated that his party will back the PPP’s candidates for the positions of Chief Minister, Speaker, and other government roles in Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure their success with a large majority.

Thirty newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly were sworn in on Monday, marking a significant step towards the formation of a new government in the region. Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate administered the oath to the lawmakers, who include 13 from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), nine from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and six from the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
The assembly session was adjourned to later in the day for the election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and the Leader of the House. Three members could not take the oath as the notification for their constituencies remains suspended by a court order.
