The Pakistan Peoples Party’s Advocate Amjad Hussain was elected unopposed as the new Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday. Earlier in the day, Imran Nadeem Shigri was chosen as the assembly’s speaker and Malik Kifayatur Rehman was selected as deputy speaker. Following a formal request from opposition lawmakers, the speaker also named Hafeezur Rehman, president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in the region, as the new opposition leader. The session was attended by political figures including Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Syed Mehdi Shah.
