Ex-Sindh IG summoned in corruption case; LHC to hear FBR rewards plea

An anti-corruption court in Karachi has summoned former Sindh Inspector General of Police, Ghulam Haider Jamali, and other police officers to appear on July 9 in a case concerning the alleged embezzlement of over Rs 15 crore from police funds.

The court issued notices after the investigating officer submitted a supplementary charge sheet in the case, which was previously under the jurisdiction of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) before being transferred following amendments to the NAB law. The accused are expected to be formally charged at the next hearing.

In a separate legal matter, the Lahore High Court (LHC) is scheduled to hear a writ petition on June 4 that challenges the legality of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) performance-based reward system for its officials.

The petitioner argues that the rules allowing rewards of up to 24 monthly salaries are illegal under the FBR Act 2007 and contradict the government’s own austerity measures. The petition specifically challenges the Inland Revenue Reward Rules 2021 and the Customs Reward Rules 2012.
