Aurangzeb Rejects Budget Discrepancy Claims, Highlights Economic Stability
ISLAMABAD – Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Saturday concluded the budget debate in the National Assembly, rejecting opposition claims of discrepancies in financial documents as a “misinterpretation of statistics.” He affirmed that the budget process was transparent and that some recommendations from parliamentary committees would be incorporated into the Finance Bill 2026.
Highlighting economic achievements, Aurangzeb stated that industrial activity is stable, the current account is in surplus, and exports are improving, with IT exports showing a 20 percent increase. He also noted the Prime Minister’s recent announcement of a significant reduction in petroleum prices, linking the country’s growing economic stability to the direction set in the previous budget.
The minister thanked all parliamentarians for their participation in the debate, which spanned 53 hours. He also praised the government’s diplomatic achievement in bringing two rival nations to the negotiating table after four decades, calling it a major success for which the entire nation deserves congratulations.
The federal budget for 2026-27 has a total outlay of Rs 18,771 billion, with a 4 percent GDP growth target. During the debate, opposition members urged the government to incorporate relief measures, including calls to reduce taxes on telecom services and essential goods, reform the energy sector, and establish a permanent disaster management fund.
