Pakistan News Desk2 weeks ago

The death toll from the major earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week has reached 1,719, with 5,034 people injured, according to local officials. The quakes, which registered magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, have also left 15,866 people homeless and affected approximately 2,500 buildings.

Amid ongoing rescue operations, a 21-year-old person was reportedly pulled alive from the rubble 106 hours after the disaster. However, there are concerns the final death toll could be significantly higher. United Nations officials are said to be procuring bags for 10,000 bodies, while the US Geological Survey has estimated that fatalities could range from 10,000 to 100,000.

In response to the crisis, the European Union has released over $5 million in emergency aid for the victims. UNICEF has stated that 1.8 million people affected by the earthquakes are in need of humanitarian assistance.
