Trump Warns Iran, Offers Deal Amid Escalating Tensions
US President Donald Trump has stated he will wait a few days for Iran’s response to diplomatic overtures, insisting that Washington must receive the “right response.” Speaking to media in the US capital, Trump said no sanctions relief would be provided to Tehran until a satisfactory agreement is reached. He added that the Iranians with whom his administration is in contact are “reasonable.”
Trump also had a “very good” telephone conversation with Turkish President Tayyip ErdoÄŸan amid the escalating regional tensions. The US president reiterated his administration’s long-standing position that Iran will not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, warning of severe consequences should a deal not materialize.
In response to the American pressure campaign, Iranian military officials have issued stern warnings. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has cautioned that any new attack by the United States will result in a war that would spread beyond the immediate region.
Iranian military leaders claim to possess significant untapped military capabilities and have threatened to deliver “surprising responses” in the event of an attack. The standoff has drawn concern from international actors, and US military leaders are facing questions in Congress regarding the potential for a wider conflict.
