Trump Claims Iran Agreed to Nuclear Inspections, Tehran Denies

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday insisted that Iran has agreed to allow extensive nuclear inspections, a claim that was promptly denied by Iranian officials.

In a social media post, Trump stated, “Iran has fully and completely agreed to highest level Nuclear inspections long into the future (Infinity!!!).” He added that without this agreement, there would be no further negotiations.

However, reports from Iran indicate that the country has not begun discussions on its nuclear programme or agreed to invite International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors back. The conflicting statements come after the United States waived sanctions on Iran for 60 days starting Monday, following initial talks under a developing peace deal. Technical discussions between the two countries in Switzerland have reportedly concluded.

Trump also said that funds being released by the U.S. Treasury will be placed in an escrow account under U.S. control. These funds will be used exclusively to purchase humanitarian supplies such as food and medicine from the United States. “This is a humanitarian crisis, and I feel it is necessary to help, NOW, before it is too late,” Trump wrote.

Additionally, the U.S. president mentioned that American ships would remain in the Strait of Hormuz, but he described the possibility of reimposing a blockade on Iranian ports as “highly unlikely at this point.”
