Dr. Akash Kumar, a doctor at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), was killed on Monday after robbers intercepted his vehicle and escaped with approximately Rs2 million.

South Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza announced on Wednesday that three suspects allegedly involved in the robbery and fatal shooting of Dr. Akash outside a bank in Karachi’s Frere area have been apprehended. DIG Raza stated that the suspects were arrested within 36 hours of the incident, following a reconstruction of the crime by investigators using extensive evidence. He made this disclosure during a press conference alongside CIA DIG Muqaddas Haider.
According to police, Dr. Akash had arrived at the bank when the suspects, who were already present, initiated the robbery. One of the accused reportedly conducted surveillance and alerted accomplices before the attack. Investigators gathered details within 24 hours and reviewed over 100 CCTV recordings during the probe. Police indicated the suspects used two motorcycles and a car to carry out the robbery. The three arrested suspects were taken into custody from the Defence Police Station jurisdiction, and authorities noted all three belong to the Hindu community. Part of the stolen cash has been recovered, with efforts ongoing to retrieve the remaining amount. Assailants reportedly fled with Rs2.5 million after the shooting.
