Court Reserves Verdict in Karachi Professor Assault Case

A court has reserved its verdict in the case concerning the assault on University of Karachi professor Dr. Mohammed Arif Khan Saqi, according to reports on September 11.

Police in Karachi have arrested the main suspect, identified as Konain Shah, in the assault case of University of Karachi professor Dr. Mohammed Arif Khan Saqi. According to police officials, there was concern the suspect might flee the city.

According to reports, Ms. Talpur directed the relevant Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to arrest the suspect promptly and ensure he is not given an opportunity to escape.

Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjar on Tuesday took notice of the assault on Dr. Mohammed Arif Khan Saqi, chairman of the University of Karachi's Islamic Learning Department, and sought a detailed report from the East Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

In a statement, the minister directed that the "dignity, honour, and safety of teachers will be ensured at all costs" and called for legal action against all individuals involved in the incident.

Separately, the Karachi University Teachers Association (KUTA) also issued a statement condemning the violence against the senior professor.

In a new development in the case of the assault on a Karachi University professor, it has been alleged that the suspects also took the victim's car by force. The claim was reportedly made by a driver involved in the incident.
