Following a recent van crash outside an imambargah in Defence Phase 6, police in Karachi's South Zone have significantly increased security arrangements for Muharram. A comprehensive security plan has been implemented to ensure the peaceful observance of religious gatherings.
Additional police personnel, mobile units, and motorcycle patrols have been deployed to major imambargahs in the zone. Deployments include 56 officers at Imambargah Baqiyatullah, 51 at Imambargah Yasrab, and 28 at Bara Imambargah in Kharadar. Authorities have also deployed 34 female searchers in the district and enhanced snap-checking and patrols to secure the area.
Police have registered a terrorism case against the driver and three companions involved in a van crash outside a Karachi imambargah that killed a 14-year-old girl and injured 19 others. The case has been transferred to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for investigation.
The First Information Report (FIR), filed by the imambargah's security head, alleges the crash was a "pre-planned scheme" and a "deliberate rehearsal of a larger terrorist action" intended to cause harm and spread fear. However, police officials noted that an initial probe suggests two of the four detained suspects have prior criminal records and are alleged drug abusers.
