Talal Chaudhry leads high-level meeting on Muharram security, new model introduced

A high-level meeting was held to review security arrangements for Muharram processions and gatherings across the country.

The meeting, reportedly led by Talal Chaudhry, was informed that police are on high alert. A new security model has also been introduced to protect the events.

Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, announced that more than 152,000 officers and personnel will be deployed across the province to ensure security for Ashura. For the 9th of Muharram, over 70,000 police personnel were deployed to secure 1,697 mourning processions and 3,869 Majalis in Punjab.

In Islamabad, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry inspected the route of the main 9th Muharram procession. The capital’s Inspector General of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, stated that approximately 6,500 personnel were assigned to security duties for the 9th Muharram, with personnel from Islamabad Police, Rangers, and the Pakistan Army performing joint duties. He added that over 2,700 cameras were being used to monitor processions and gatherings in the city.

Strict security arrangements have been put in place across Pakistan for processions being held on the 9th of Muharram, available reports confirmed on Thursday.
