The Supreme Court of Pakistan hosted a conference on the subject of prison reforms on Thursday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi delivered an address at the event. The conference was also attended by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Maryam Nawaz.

During her address at the Prison Reforms Conference on Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the introduction of an “emergency button” in jails for prisoners.

The chief minister also spoke about her own experience of being incarcerated, stating she was held in solitary confinement for 24 hours at Adiala Jail and shared details of what she described as painful moments from her time in prison.

Sindh Chief Minister also addressed the prison reforms conference held in Islamabad. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also delivered a speech at the event.

During the address by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on the subject of prisoners’ rights, available reports state that Chief Justice Yahya Afridi stood from his chair.

During his address at the Supreme Court conference on prison reforms, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that the reform process should begin from Adiala Jail.
