Senate panel approves bill proposing death penalty for acid attacks

On Monday, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior, chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman, approved significant criminal law amendments. Key among them was a bill proposing the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a minimum 14-year sentence for acid attacks, citing the continued prevalence of such crimes. The committee also unanimously passed a bill to criminalise the abuse of domestic workers, introducing penalties up to life imprisonment in severe cases. The measures were passed despite opposition from the State Minister for Interior.
