Saudi Arabia Shoots Down Multiple Drones Fired From Yemen

Pakistan has strongly condemned drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, with the Foreign Office (FO) issuing a statement on Monday expressing unwavering solidarity with the kingdom and its people.

The condemnation followed an announcement from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence that its forces had intercepted and destroyed three drones on Monday morning. The ministry specified that the drones originated from Iraqi airspace, prompting Iraq to launch an investigation into the incident. The United Arab Emirates also denounced the attack.

In its statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office described the strikes as a “serious violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” and an apparent “attempt to further undermine regional peace and stability.” The FO reaffirmed that the government and people of Pakistan stand with the Saudi government, offering “full and unwavering support for the kingdom’s security, peace and prosperity.”

This incident occurred a day after strikes targeted the Barakah nuclear plant in the UAE, an act which was also condemned by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Emirati Industry Minister Dr Sultan Al-Jaber branded the strike on the plant a “terrorist attack”.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also weighed in on the heightened regional tensions, condemning the drone attack on the UAE and calling on all parties to “exercise maximum restraint.” Expressing solidarity with the UAE, the prime minister emphasized that “dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward lasting regional peace, stability and de-escalation.”
