Regional Conflict Involving Iran and Kuwait

Kuwait has strongly condemned missile and drone attacks from Iran that killed one Indian national and injured several others. In response, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iran’s Chargé d’Affaires to register a formal and strong protest against the aggression.

Furthermore, Kuwait has ordered a reduction in Iran’s diplomatic staff, declaring two Iranian diplomats persona non grata and giving them 24 hours to leave the country.

An Iranian Revolutionary Guard spokesperson has stated that the destruction at the Kuwaiti airport was caused by a malfunctioning US air defense system during an attempt to intercept an Iranian missile, reiterating that Iran did not attack the airport. In response, the US Central Command has refuted the claim, stating that the airport was not damaged by a US missile interceptor.

Kuwait has confirmed that an Iranian drone attack on its international airport killed one person and injured 63 others, causing significant damage to a passenger building and forcing the suspension of flights. The deceased has been identified as an Indian national.

Iran’s foreign minister described the action as a “self-defense strike” following an alleged US attack on an oil tanker. In response to the incident and Iranian claims that US strikes were launched from its territory, Kuwait has denied its airspace or land was used for any hostile acts and has summoned Iran’s charge d’affaires in protest. The Kuwaiti military reported intercepting 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones on Wednesday.
