Qatari PM Engages in Diplomacy, Appreciates Pakistan’s Role in Agreement

Significant progress has been made towards ending the conflict in Lebanon, thanks to continuous diplomatic efforts and mediation by Pakistan and Qatar, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced.

In a statement, Araghchi detailed that an agreement has been reached to ease sanctions on oil and petrochemical exports, end the ongoing siege, release certain frozen assets, and launch a major reconstruction and development project for Iran. He noted that while the development is encouraging, the first true test of the agreement will be the establishment of a ‘Lebanon De-confliction Cell,’ which is tasked with reducing tensions and implementing a ceasefire between the parties.

High-stakes US-Iran negotiations in Switzerland were temporarily derailed after the Iranian delegation protested threatening statements made by US President Donald Trump. The Iranian team reportedly walked out of the direct talks after Trump warned he would “completely destroy” Iran if a deal was not reached and that they “won’t have a country” if the Strait of Hormuz was closed.

Pakistani and Qatari mediators, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, intervened to end the deadlock, with negotiations continuing indirectly. The Iranian delegation stated that talks on other matters would not proceed until the conflict in Lebanon ceased. Despite the disruption, US Vice President JD Vance praised Pakistan’s role, particularly that of Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, whom he called a “great military leader” and an “even better diplomat.”

Speaking alongside Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and US Vice President JD Vance, he pledged that Qatar will continue its mediation efforts until the issue is resolved.

He also extended his gratitude to the leadership and efforts of all countries involved in the diplomatic process, expressing his best wishes for all parties.
