Punjab govt details security, medical arrangements for Youm-e-Ashura

The Punjab government has put in place special arrangements for Youm-e-Ashura, with a focus on security and medical aid for mourners.

In a media talk, Maryam Aurangzeb confirmed that tight security measures were in effect for all processions and majalis in the province.

Additionally, the provincial government, under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has set up field hospital facilities to provide medical assistance to participants in the Ashura processions.

As part of the security plan, the Punjab government has introduced a three-tier security arrangement for Muharram for the first time. Following the implementation of the arrangements, Ulema have reportedly praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the measures taken.

Punjab’s Chief Minister has stated that approximately 1,300 mourning processions are scheduled to take place across the province for Youm-e-Ashura.

On Youm-e-Ashur, mobile phone services have been partially suspended in 24 districts across Punjab until 10 p.m. The Federal Ministry of Interior issued the notification at the request of the Punjab Home Department to ensure public safety.

The suspension is limited to sensitive areas where processions and majalis are scheduled. Affected districts include Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Gujrat, Narowal, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, and Rahim Yar Khan. Mobile services in Lahore and other districts not specified in the notification will remain fully operational.

Separately, Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb visited Karbala Gamay Shah to review security arrangements for the main procession.
