President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Monday for a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, marking the first visit by a Pakistani president to the Central Asian nation in 21 years.

The visit, which runs from July 6 to 9, comes at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov. According to the Foreign Office, the trip is a “historic milestone” and follows President Zhaparov’s visit to Pakistan in December 2025, reflecting a “sustained upward trajectory” in high-level engagement.

President Zardari, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting and delegation-level talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart. The discussions are expected to cover the full scope of bilateral relations and include an exchange of views on regional and international matters.

The agenda will focus on deepening cooperation in a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Trade and investment
  • Energy and mining
  • Agriculture and textiles
  • The halal industry
  • Healthcare and pharmaceuticals
  • The digital economy
  • Education and tourism
  • People-to-people exchanges

During his stay, President Zardari will also receive a courtesy call from the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Marlen Mamataliev.

Both Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and are partners in the CASA-1000 electricity transmission project, which also involves Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
