Pakistan Navy observes Navy Day, honours 1965 war heroes

Further details have been highlighted regarding the historic 'Operation SOMNATH' of 1965, a key event commemorated on Navy Day. The target, Dwarka, located approximately 350 kilometres from Karachi, was considered a defensive fortress for India. Its radar station was crucial for providing support to the Indian Air Force.

The Pakistan Navy planned and executed an operation to eliminate this threat. A fleet comprising seven warships advanced towards the target without using radio signals to maintain secrecy. The naval force successfully destroyed the Indian radar station within minutes of engagement.

Pakistan observed Navy Day on September 8 with ceremonies honouring the naval warriors of the 1965 war. The day began with Quran Khawani and special prayers for the martyrs.

In a message, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf recalled the historic 'Operation SOMNATH', stating that the spirit forged during the operation remains alive and was reflected in the successful deterrence of the Indian Navy during the more recent 'Marka-e-Haq'.

At Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, Admiral Ashraf laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument and met with the families of the martyrs to acknowledge their sacrifices and resilience.

During the Navy Day ceremony at Naval Headquarters, a black jeep reportedly made a surprise entry as the Naval Chief paid tribute to the nation's war heroes.

On the occasion of Navy Day, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf attended a ceremony at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad to pay tribute to the nation's martyrs.

During the event, the Navy Chief laid a floral wreath at the martyrs' monument. Reports also indicate he met with the families of naval martyrs and presented them with bouquets.
