Pre-Monsoon Heavy Rain Across Punjab and Islamabad

Heavy rainfall and storms have hit Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Punjab, including Upper Punjab. Clouds have taken over the sky in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The weather has taken a sudden turn, marked by pre-monsoon heavy rain. A wall of a zoo in Punjab collapsed after heavy rain and a storm. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected in Lahore. Islamabad is expected to receive more rain in the coming hours.

Intermittent heavy rainfall has brought relief from the heat in Rawalpindi and Islamabad but has led to significant urban flooding, with 45mm of rain recorded in the twin cities. Water accumulation has been reported on Double Road, Handora Chungi, and the Dhok Kala Khan service road in Rawalpindi, while the Faizabad bus stand is also inundated, causing disruptions to traffic flow.

The weather system has also brought pleasant conditions to parts of Azad Kashmir. The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain with wind and thunderstorms for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, warning of a potential for landslides. Separately, the Naran-Babusar highway has been closed at Babusar Top for all traffic until June 8 for restoration and debris removal.
