PM Orders Immediate Relief for Public as Global Oil Prices Fall
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to immediately pass on the benefit of declining international oil prices to consumers, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced on Thursday.
The minister attributed the fall in prices to the recent US-Iran peace agreement, which has eased geopolitical tensions and improved the oil supply outlook. In response to the Prime Minister’s directive, a high-level committee is being formed to devise a transparent weekly fuel pricing mechanism.
Global oil prices fell more than $1 per barrel on Thursday, with Brent crude trading at $77 per barrel and WTI crude at $74 per barrel. Minister Malik thanked industry partners for maintaining the country’s oil supply chain during the recent period of uncertainty and said the government is reviewing its energy security paradigm.
