Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Agree to Establish Strategic Partnership

President Asif Ali Zardari and Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, reaffirmed their commitment to boosting bilateral ties between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan. The leaders particularly stressed the importance of deepening trade, economic, and investment cooperation.

President Zardari arrived in Kyrgyzstan on July 6 for a four-day official visit, which concludes on July 9. He received an official welcome upon his arrival.

According to a joint statement issued on Tuesday, both presidents expressed satisfaction over the development of Kyrgyz-Pakistani relations. They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and urged the consistent implementation of agreements reached during the Kyrgyz president’s visit to Pakistan in December.

The leaders emphasized the need for maintaining active political dialogue, expanding contacts at the highest levels, and strengthening interaction between the parliaments, governments, and foreign ministries of both countries. They also expressed readiness to establish a strategic partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan, with a focus on trade, economic, and investment cooperation.

Relevant ministers and agencies have been directed to intensify joint efforts to implement the agreements and take practical measures aimed at developing trade, investment activity, and business ties. The statement further highlighted the need to enhance inter-agency cooperation mechanisms and improve the effectiveness of the Kyrgyz-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, as well as relevant Joint Working Groups.

Both leaders pledged comprehensive support for ties between the business communities of each country, including chambers of commerce and industry, investment promotion agencies, and banking and financial institutions. The implementation of joint projects and joint ventures was also encouraged. The sides noted considerable potential for expanding cooperation in the energy sector, particularly through the effective implementation of the CASA-1000 Project, which serves as a vital link connecting Central and South Asia.
