Google to open office in Pakistan, confirms IT Minister Shaza Fatima

Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima has confirmed that Google is set to open an office in Pakistan, a move expected to create new job opportunities in the country's tech sector.

The announcement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and the tech giant on Friday, aimed at accelerating the nation's digital transformation.

The agreement was formally signed by Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Zarrar Hashim Khan, and Google's Head of Public Policy for Southeast Asia and South Asia, David Wheller.

The cooperation will also focus on providing digital platforms to help Pakistani small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) gain access to global markets. The established task force will be responsible for creating a roadmap for IT exports and identifying barriers to growth. The initiative is described as a significant step towards the Prime Minister's vision of expanding Pakistan's IT exports and digital economy to $30 billion by 2030.

A task force comprising representatives from the government, Google, and other relevant stakeholders will be established to oversee the implementation of the agreement, according to the Prime Minister's Office.
