Opposition demands access to jailed PTI founder, government refuses

Opposition parties in parliament have strongly demanded access to the incarcerated founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a request the government has refused. Opposition leaders cited concerns over the former prime minister’s health and the denial of his legal rights as the basis for their demand.

In a session of the Senate, the government rejected a proposal from the opposition to form a special committee to facilitate meetings with the PTI founder. Opposition members stated that even court orders sanctioning such meetings are not being honored.

A government representative responded by stating that the law does not permit visits of this nature for political purposes. The representative also provided assurances that the imprisoned leader is receiving the best possible medical treatment.
