Following the Supreme Court’s rejection of Zahir Jaffer’s final appeal, Noor Mukadam’s father, Shaukat Muqaddam, announced he will appeal to the President of Pakistan to reject any potential mercy petition filed by the convict. Speaking to the media, he urged that the death sentence be carried out and thanked the media for its support throughout the trial.

During the final hearing, Jaffer’s counsel argued for leniency, claiming his client suffered from Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Depression and was not mentally sound during the crime. The lawyer also alleged the court was under pressure. The bench, however, dismissed these arguments, stating its decisions are not influenced by media or social pressure and noting the defense had not previously challenged the High Court’s decision against forming a medical board.
