Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) President Aleem Khan has accepted an offer from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to form a coalition government in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The agreement was reached during a telephone call between the two leaders. Following the conversation, Mr. Khan confirmed that the IPP would support the PPP’s candidates in the elections for chief minister, speaker, and other positions in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, stating they would work to ensure their success with a large majority.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on Monday elected Amjad Hussain Advocate of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as the new chief minister unopposed. No other candidate filed nomination papers for the position.

Following his election, the new chief minister addressed the assembly, stating that the welfare and development of the region would be his government’s top priority. He also pledged to utilize the region’s natural resources for economic progress and to implement a strategy to address unemployment.

Meanwhile, Hafeezur Rehman of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was declared the leader of the opposition in the house.

Prior to the unopposed election of Amjad Hussain Advocate as Chief Minister, the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly also elected its new Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Imran Nadeem of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was elected as Speaker, while Kafayat-ur-Rehman of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was chosen as Deputy Speaker.

Outgoing Speaker Nazir Ahmed administered the oath of office to the newly elected Speaker Imran Nadeem. Following this, Speaker Nadeem administered the oath to Deputy Speaker Kafayat-ur-Rehman.
