NDMA Issues Alert as Hispar Hopper Glacier Melt Swells River
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert regarding increased water flow due to the melting of the Hispar Hopper Glacier, which has caused a sudden rise in the river’s water level.
The authority confirmed it is actively monitoring the situation and has directed the local administration to implement protective measures for residents living along the riverbanks.
Residents in several areas of the Gilgit district, including Guru Jaglot, Rahimabad, Nomal, Jutal, Jaglot Colony, and Chilimish, have been urged to exercise caution. The NDMA also advised travelers to take precautionary measures and recommended using the ‘Pak NDMA Alert’ application for safety updates.
