The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast intermittent pre-monsoon rains across parts of the country from June 28 to July 3.

According to the NDMA, the combination of high temperatures and the anticipated rainfall raises concerns about the rapid melting of glaciers in northern regions. This could lead to a sudden rise in water levels in rivers and streams across Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir.

The authority has warned of potential glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), flash floods, and landslides in sensitive areas. Residents, tourists, and travelers in the following districts have been advised to exercise caution:

  • Hunza
  • Nagar
  • Ghizer
  • Skardu
  • Shigar
  • Ghanche
  • Kharmang
  • Astore
  • Diamer
  • Upper and Lower Chitral
  • Swat

The NDMA has urged the public to avoid unnecessary movement near rivers, streams, and glacial lakes. Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) have been instructed to remain on high alert to handle any potential emergencies.
