The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Monday that monsoon rains are expected to begin across the country from the first week of July. The weather system is anticipated to bring widespread rain, windstorms, and thundershowers, which will significantly subside the prevailing hot and humid conditions.

According to the PMD, a westerly wave is likely to enter the upper parts of the country from the night of June 30. This will combine with moist currents from the Arabian Sea and further currents from the Bay of Bengal expected to reach the upper regions by July 2.

Kashmir: Scattered rain, windstorms, and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in areas including Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and the Neelum valley from July 1 to July 6.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Similar weather is forecast for districts including Dir, Swat, Peshawar, Kohat, and Bannu from July 1 to July 5, with occasional gaps.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Rain and thunderstorms are predicted for areas including Diamir, Astore, Skardu, and Gilgit from July 1 to July 5.

Punjab and Islamabad: Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, and northern and central Punjab districts such as Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad are expected to receive rain from July 1 to July 6. Southern Punjab districts including Multan, Bahawalpur, and D.G. Khan are forecast to see intermittent rainfall from July 3 to July 5.

Balochistan: North and northeastern regions, including Zhob, Sibbi, and Naseerabad, are likely to receive precipitation from July 1 to July 4.

Sindh: Winds and rain are also expected in northern districts, including Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad.

While the monsoon offers relief from summer heat, authorities have warned of potential risks including urban flooding, flash floods in hilly areas, and landslides. The public has been advised to take necessary precautions.
