Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday urged parents to ensure their children’s safety and avoid leaving them unattended, following two recent tragic incidents in the province.

Her comments came after the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Sargodha and a roof collapse at a private tuition centre in Lahore that resulted in the deaths of 14 children. Speaking at a National Paigham-i-Aman Committee event, the chief minister addressed both cases.

Referring to the Sargodha incident, she stated that the child had gone to a shop alone before being murdered by the shopkeeper. CM Maryam noted that she had taken immediate notice and directed authorities to apprehend the suspect.

She appealed to parents not to send their children to markets alone where they are vulnerable. “If you must, do things yourself, rather than leaving your children exposed to these monsters,” she said.

Regarding the roof collapse in Lahore on Monday, the chief minister expressed her sorrow. While noting the incident was due to the tuition centre’s negligence, she urged parents to verify the safety of schools, madressahs, and tuition centres before sending their children.
