Law Minister Tarar states no signs of 28th Amendment yet

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has stated there are currently no signs of a 28th Constitutional Amendment. He affirmed that whenever an amendment is brought forward, the government will consult with its allies. Mr. Tarar has also revealed why an amendment is necessary.

Rana Sanaullah has also issued a key statement on the matter. Discussions connected to the amendment have included potential changes to the voter age from 18 to 25, modifications to the NFC Award, and the creation of a new province in Faisalabad. In a discussion related to the amendment, Mr. Sanaullah also stated that PAK supports the interests of the Palestinians. Separately, PML-N leader Shumaila Rana has spoken on the question of who holds real power, while party member Afnan Ullah Khan Niazi clarified the federal government’s position on convincing the PPP.

From the Pakistan Peoples Party, both Nasir Hussain Shah and Sharjeel Memon stated that the government has not made contact or held consultations with them regarding a 28th Amendment. A “cold war” has been noted between the PPP and the government on the issue. The PPP has announced a major decision regarding the amendment, with reports also confirming details on the BISP program. PPP’s Syed Hassan Murtaza commented that amendments can be passed in just one hour.

PTI’s Amjad Khan Niazi has issued a major statement on the amendment, while party leader Shaukat Yousafzai made claims regarding the amendment and meetings with Imran Khan. JUI-F’s Hafiz Hamdullah has also made remarks on the subject.

The prospect of a 28th Amendment has sparked a political storm and a power struggle in Pakistan. There are reports of the PPP being in touch with the PTI. In this context, a meeting has taken place between CM KPK Sohail Afridi and the Governor of KPK. Analyst Najam Sethi has also provided an analysis of the new political situation.
