Lady Constable Killed in Targeted Attack in Turbat

A woman police constable was shot and killed in a targeted attack in Turbat, Balochistan on Saturday, while her husband and infant son were wounded. Constable Shakila was travelling on a motorcycle with her family when unidentified armed men opened fire near the Apsar Research Farm.

Police officials reported that the constable died at the scene from multiple bullet wounds. She was on her way to perform court duty at the time of the ambush. The assailants fled immediately after the attack. Authorities have launched an investigation into what they are terming a targeted killing.

The injured were identified as the officer’s husband, Sunil, and their seven-month-old son, Abbas. Police shifted the deceased and the injured to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the “terrorist” attack, stating that the sacrifices of martyrs in the war against terrorism would not be in vain. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the killing, calling Constable Shakila a “brave daughter of Balochistan who fulfilled her duty with unwavering commitment.”

This incident follows the killing of another female constable in the Zehri area of Khuzdar district last month. In a separate attack on the same day, a professor and Brahvi-language poet, Mohammad Khan, was gunned down in Nushki. No group has claimed responsibility for either of the killings.
