During his visit to the family of five-year-old Ayat Noor on Saturday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi became emotional while consoling the girl's father. The father pleaded for the culprits to be publicly hanged.
The chief minister, who appeared to be in tears, reiterated his promise that the government would ensure the accused are made an "example" to deter such crimes in the future. He assured the family of the government's full support in pursuing the case.
In addition to legislative changes, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced a package of support for the victim's family and the local community. According to PTI’s provincial chief whip, MPA Akbar Ayub Khan, the chief minister announced financial assistance and a government job for the girl's father.
Furthermore, the Government High School for Girls in Pathan Colony will be renamed in honour of Ayat Noor. A Rs2 billion Safe City project, featuring surveillance cameras, was also announced for Haripur city to enhance public safety.
