An emergency power shutdown at the Dhabeji Grid Station on Saturday evening has further disrupted Karachi’s water supply. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) announced that a major fault in a transformer forced 10 of the 21 pumping units at the Dhabeji Pumping Station to cease operations.
While K-Electric initially indicated the shutdown would last for an hour, the KWSC has since stated there is no definitive timeline for the restoration of power. This incident compounds a severe water crisis that has plagued the city for two months, with residents urged to use water judiciously. The KWSC is in contact with K-Electric to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
