Justice Munib Akhtar Takes Oath as Acting Chief Justice

Supreme Court’s Senior Puisne Judge, Justice Munib Akhtar, has taken the oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan. The appointment is for the temporary period during which Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is out of the country.

In a simple ceremony held at the Supreme Court Branch Registry in Karachi, Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui administered the oath. The appointment is in line with constitutional convention, where the senior-most judge assumes the duties of the Chief Justice in their absence. The ceremony was attended by judges and senior court officials.
