Islamabad Police Announce Traffic Plan for 9th Muharram Procession
Processions for the 9th of Muharram are being held across Pakistan on Thursday. In the capital, Islamabad Police have announced a detailed traffic plan and road closures as part of security measures for the main procession.
The central procession is scheduled to depart from Imambargah Itehad-e-Asna Ashri in G-6/2 at 1:00 PM. It will follow a route along G-6 Service Road, Saddar Road, Municipal Road, Melody Chowk, Shuhada Chowk, and Luqman Hakim Road before concluding at the Imambargah.
Police have advised that traffic diversions will be in place from 7:00 AM until the procession concludes. Major roads to be closed to traffic include:
- Fazal Haq Road from Khayaban-e-Khaldunia Chowk to China Chowk
- Suhrawardi Road from Seventh Avenue Daman-e-Koh Chowk towards Chand Tara Chowk
- Saddar Road from Iqbal Hall to Melody Chowk
- Municipal Road from Lal Masjid to Shuhada Chowk GPO Chowk
- Luqman Hakim Road from Poly Clinic to Iqbal Hall
Authorities have advised citizens to use alternative routes, including Jinnah Avenue, Suhrawardi Road, Margalla Road, and Shahid Millat Road. Participants in the procession have been requested to park vehicles in designated areas.
Processions are also taking place in other parts of the country, including Rohri in Sindh.
