Islamabad Deploys 15,000 Personnel, Drones for Muharram Security
ISLAMABAD: Over 15,000 security personnel will be deployed in Islamabad to ensure peace during Muharram, with authorities implementing a “four-tier security cordon” around processions and religious gatherings.
Following a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the ministry detailed a comprehensive security plan that includes digital monitoring via drones and the use of over 3,000 CCTV cameras. The geo-tagging of all imambargahs, majalis venues, and procession routes has been completed, and a central control room has been established at the Safe City project.
For the first time in the capital’s history, a special mobile application, ‘Mehfooz Muharram’, has been launched. The app will allow citizens to report suspicious activities or individuals and features live location and image sharing.
Naqvi ordered strict checking at all entry and exit points of processions and directed officials to maintain close coordination with religious scholars to enforce the code of conduct. “A zero-tolerance policy should be adopted against provocative material,” the minister stated. More than 170 processions and 930 majalis are expected to be held across the federal capital during the holy month.
