Dar in Istanbul for R-4 meeting of Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Egypt

Upon his arrival in Istanbul on Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited the shrine of Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari (RA) and offered prayers.

Mr. Dar is in Türkiye to attend the Regional 4 (R-4) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which brings together Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The R-4 framework, which focuses on regional security and diplomatic coordination, emerged in March to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran. Previous meetings have been held in Riyadh, Islamabad, and Cairo.

The Foreign Minister was received at the airport by senior Turkish government and military officials, along with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Dr. Yousaf Junaid.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has concluded his official visit to the United Kingdom and departed for Istanbul, Turkiye, the Foreign Office confirmed on Sunday.

The visit to Turkiye is for official engagements and to attend the upcoming Regional 4 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Istanbul.

During his visit to the UK, which the Foreign Office described as "successful", Mr. Dar met with UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, Minister of State for Pakistan Stephen Doughty, National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, International Maritime Organisation Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez, and Commonwealth Secretary General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. He also interacted with British parliamentarians of Pakistani origin and members of the Pakistani diaspora.

Speaking during his visit to the UK, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that the conflict between Iran and the United States has ended, following successful mediation efforts by Pakistan.

While in the United Kingdom, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also addressed members of the Pakistani community in London on Sunday, August 30.

Pakistan's credit rating has seen an improvement, according to reports on Saturday, August 29. However, analysts suggest that despite this positive development, significant economic challenges and dangers persist for the country.

Speaking on Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan is now out of default risk and the country's economy is back on track.

During an address in London, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that a major economic goal for Pakistan is to join the G20 group of the world's largest economies.

Speaking at a press conference in London on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar provided further details on his UK visit. He said he held discussions with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, focusing on reforms and youth initiatives, noting that Pakistan is co-chairing the Commonwealth Youth Programme. Mr. Dar added that during his meetings, he also highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, as it remains one of the ten most affected countries globally.

Speaking to the media in London, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that British ministers had praised the role of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir in the recent Iran-US deal.

During his visit to the United Kingdom, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also held a meeting with British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell on Thursday.

The meeting with the NSA was in addition to delegation-level talks with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, where the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and key regional developments.
