Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has vowed revenge for the US-Israeli killing of his father and predecessor. This pledge came hours after President Donald Trump warned that any attempt to assassinate him would lead the United States to “completely decimate” Iran.
Both sides have escalated rhetoric following exchanges of fire that ended an interim ceasefire agreement. In his first message since his father Ali Khamenei’s funeral, Mojtaba Khamenei stated that vengeance “must inevitably be carried out” and that Iran has compiled a list of individuals to be targeted. President Trump, on his Truth Social platform, asserted that “1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded” and the US military is ready to “completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran” for a year if threats are acted upon.
Mediators are working to bring diplomacy back on track, with Iranian media reporting that a Qatari delegation visited Iran on Friday.
Following his pledge to avenge his father’s death, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s remarks have triggered fresh tensions. He has issued a strong warning, which is seen in the context of potential conflict with the United States.
