Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, has issued a warning to smaller countries in the region, advising them not to be “deceived by specific assurances.” In a statement, Velayati asserted that regional stability is maintained due to Iran’s long-standing control over the Strait of Hormuz.

He further claimed that the West has brought nothing but “barbarism and looting” to the region. Velayati added that the existence of smaller nations often depends on the patronage of major powers and that they hold “no status” in the new regional alignment.
