Karachi Chehlum Procession Continues on Designated Routes

The main Chehlum procession of Imam Hussain in Karachi continues to proceed along its designated routes today, August 4.

Mourning processions to mark Chehlum are underway in Karachi on Tuesday amid heavy security after departing Nishter Park at 1pm, according to the police. The front of the main procession reached Eidgah Chowk by 4:50pm, while its tail was at Britto Road, en route to Hussainia Iranian Imambargah. Police had earlier announced the closure of MA Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir to Tower and provided alternate routes for commuters.

An Additional Inspector General made an emergency visit to review the security arrangements for the Chehlum processions in Karachi.

Strict security measures have been implemented across Karachi for the main Chehlum procession commemorating the martyrs of Karbala on Tuesday.

The central procession is set to begin from Nishter Park near Numaish Chowrangi. It will proceed along its traditional route, including M.A. Jinnah Road, and is scheduled to conclude at the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar in the evening.

According to officials, more than 8,000 police personnel have been deployed to secure the procession route. They are being supported by a large contingent of Rangers.

Numerous smaller processions from various parts of the city, including Malir, Johar, and Saddar, are expected to merge with the main procession. Authorities have sealed roads along the procession's path with containers, and traffic is being diverted to alternative routes. All participants are undergoing thorough security checks before being allowed to join.

Central Arbaeen processions have also set off from Korangi and Malir in Karachi, with mourners walking to join the observances for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

New reports confirm that a Chehlum procession is emerging from Ashiq-e-Hussain Imambargah in Rawalpindi. Another procession is also emerging from Haveli Alif Shah. The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions is being marked with devotion, and majalis are scheduled to be held at various imambargahs and other venues.

Separately, the Lahore Traffic Police have issued a traffic plan for the Chehlum procession in the city.

The Iranian official identified as Araqchi, who visited the Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf, Iraq, ahead of the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage, has been identified as the Iranian Foreign Minister. His visit is linked to the Chehlum procession.

Karachi Traffic Police have finalized a special traffic management plan and released a route map for the central Chehlum procession. The procession, marking the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and will begin at 9:00 a.m. from Nishtar Park, proceeding to Imambargah Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar.

As part of security arrangements, M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed to all types of traffic from Gurumandir to Tower throughout the procession.

To minimize disruption, several alternative routes have been announced:

• Traffic from Nazimabad will be diverted via Lasbela Chowk and Nishtar Road toward Garden.
• Vehicles from Liaquatabad will be redirected from Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk before proceeding toward Central Jail via Martin Road.
• Motorists from Hasan Square toward People’s Chowrangi will be routed through Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal on Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and Nishtar Road via Lasbela Chowk.
• Vehicles approaching from Shahrah-e-Faisal toward Numaish will be diverted through Noorani Kabab, Society Light Signal, and Kashmir Road.
• Traffic from Central Jail Gate on Jamshed Road toward Gurumandir via M.A. Jinnah Road will be redirected through Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar.
• Vehicles approaching M.A. Jinnah Road from Garden Zoo will be diverted via Anklesaria, Gul Plaza, Coast Guard, and Holy Family Hospital.

Special arrangements have also been made for heavy and commercial vehicles. Trucks from the Super Highway toward M.A. Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 to Nazimabad No. 2 Chowrangi, continuing through SITE Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Sher Shah, and Mauripur. The same route will be used for the return journey. Heavy and commercial vehicles entering the city from the National Highway will be allowed to travel via Shahrah-e-Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hasan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, and Nazimabad No. The traffic police have also banned parking along the procession route.
