PM Shehbaz, Iranian Minister Discuss Bilateral Ties, Border Security

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni discussed Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and border security during their meeting.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting regional peace and stability during a meeting with Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. The Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region, urging all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilise the area. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to play the role of an "honest and sincere mediator and facilitator."

During the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and other senior officials, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recalled his recent visit to Tehran to attend the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. He conveyed his best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Minister Momeni thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and conveyed greetings from the Iranian leadership. He also appreciated the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.

Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited the Pakistan Monument and attended the Martyrs' Memorial, accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.

The Iranian Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the PM House in Islamabad on Tuesday. The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the commencement of this meeting via an X post. Prior to this, a police parade was held in Mr. Momeni's honour in Islamabad. His visit comes as Pakistan continues its diplomatic efforts to mediate between the US and Iran, following the collapse of an interim ceasefire and renewed hostilities between the two nations.

Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his official visit to Pakistan. Earlier, Mr. Momeni was accorded a Guard of Honour at the Pakistan Monument, where he was received by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry. A contingent of the Federal Constabulary presented the Guard of Honour. Mr. Momeni also visited the Martyrs’ Memorial, where he laid a floral wreath and offered Fatiha, paying tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs. He was briefed on the historical and national significance of the monument and enjoyed a panoramic view of Islamabad from Shakarparian.
